Well, folks, it's over. Today was a long but rewarding and enriching day, from my perspective. With the help of our Presiding Bishop and our Presiding Bishop-elect, the good will and solid center of our Church prevailed. We passed what we believe to be a strong positive response to the Windsor Report, approved a Eucharistic sharing agreement with the United Methodist Church, and acted upon a wide range of Resolutions. While there were strong feelings and a wide range of opinions, Convention as a whole was never uncertain about either our commitment to the Anglican Communion or our desire to live together in community. Ours is a Church rich in faith, hope, and love.
I hope these observations and reflections have helped you share our journey through General Convention, 2006. It has been an honor to serve with our truly wonderful Deputation and our dedicated and caring Bishop. I am convinced that our Diocese was very well served by its Deputation, and I am proud to have been a part of it.
|Our Presiding Bishop was the Celebrant at the Eucharist today..||...while Presiding Bishop Elect Schori preached.. Her sermon is here.|
|The children of Bishops and Deputies, who had been in a sort of Vacation Bible School, made an offering.||Of all the lines I have taken pictures of, this is the most important--the line for Communion.|
|Then we were back in session, beginning with an address by Bishop Griswold....||followed by some serious listening and praying, and then by decisions.|
|Before we knew it, everyone was looking at the clock.||As we got closer to the 6:00 PM adjournment,|
|Things became a bit of a blur.||But we made it, and General Convention 2006 is adjourned.|
And I can begin to repack my traveling office and, with about 9,000 others, head home.
